Description : The Duncan Road straddles the border of Western Australia and Northern Territory from the Great Antrim Plateau at the headwater east of the Nicholson river (in the south) to the Victoria Highway east of Kununurra. It passes through Yunurrl country (near Spring Creek Station) on the eastern side of the Ord River. This is yowal yowal country (black soil) and becomes boggy in the wet season. The Behn River, which feeds Lake Argyle, runs through this area. On either side of the Painting are mowrun (bloodwood trees) from which a natural pigment fixative is collected. At the top of the painting is Gowardebalin – the limestone country to the east of the Behn River.
Biography of Artist: Patrick was born at Spring Creek, Western Australia in about 1948, grew up at Texas Downs Station and he now lives at the Warmun Community at Turkey Creek. He started painting in 1991.
Patrick Mung Mung is now a senior artist and elder at the Warmun Community. He is a strong cross-cultural communicator who draws on influences from previous Warmun artists such as Rover Thomas. Patrick’s knowledge of his culture, family, country and work are portrayed in his painting. His work is represented in collections of the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Artbank, Sydney; Kerry Stokes Collection, Perth; National Australia Bank; and the Nibberluna Collection, Hobart.
