Description: The subject of this painting are fallen leaves which have been energized by the wind. The leaves relate to Gloria's country and particularly their use in medicine and their cultural significance to the Utopia community.


Biography of Artist: Gloria Petyarre was born near Utopia about 1945 and has worked from a number of locations but presently at Mosquito Bore, Northern Territory. After more than ten years of working with the Utopia women, in 1991 she embarked on her first solo exhibitions, held at Utopia Art Sydney and Australian Galleries, New York. Whilst painting a programme of solo exhibitions she has continued to participate in group exhibitions with other indigenous artists. Gloria Petyarre's work is held in the collections of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Australian National Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria, Museum of Victoria, and many educational institutions and corporate collections including James D Wolfensohn, Macquarie Bank, Baker McKenzie and Westpac.
In 199596 Gloria Petyarre was the recipient of a fellowship grant from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Board of the Australia Council. In 1999 Gloria Petyarre won the Art Gallery of New South Wales Wynne Prize.
